to refer to the size of the gem, but actually it's the weight. One carat is 0.2
grams. As there are relatively few large stones, the higher the number of carats
is, the more rare it is and the greater the value it will have. The origin of
the word is the Arabic word "Kirat," meaning carob seed. The carob seed
was long used as a unit of measure, since each seed was approximately the same
